Finally, Abducted 14-year-old Ese Oruru Regains Her Freedom


Eight months after her abduction, Ese Oruru, 14, is now in the custody of the Federal Government, reports say.

 The Minister for Women Affairs, Sen. Jummai Alhassan had vowed to do everything within her powers to secure the girl’s release. Hours ago, it was reported that the emir of Kano, Malam Muhammadu Sanusi II had ordered the release of the little girl who was abducted and forcefully married by one Yunusa of Kura local government of Kano state.


However, details of the IGP’s plan to return Ese to her family and to prosecute those that violated the country’s laws are still being expected.

VETERAN ACTOR, JAB ADU DIES AT 83

Veteran actor and former banker, Joseph ‘Jab’ Adu, aged 83,died yesterday February 29, 2016 in Abeokuta, Ogun State. No statement has been released concerning his death.

He was one of the few surviving casts of the popular TV drama, The Village Headmaster, a film that featured another late actor, Justice Esiri.

Adu also featured in some other interesting movies such as, Cool Red (1976), Bisi, Daughter of the River (1977) and Wetin Dey (2007), playing actor and producer respectively.Before his acting career kick-started, he was a banker with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), a time that also saw him combining banking with acting.

He featured as an actor and writer in ‘The Village Headmaster’, playing the role of Bassey Okon, the doctor, dispenser and pharmacist of Oja village.

Cross-River State born Adu left the banking industry to focus on a career in full-time acting since 1970. 46 years to his death.

Remi Sonaiya, Ben Bruce, Other Nigerians Condemn The Abduction And Forceful Marriage Of A 13 Year Old Girl By A Kano Man


Nigerians including Sen. Ben Murray Bruce and Presidential candidate, Remi Sonaiya have come out on twitter to condemn the abduction of a 13 year old girl by a Kano-based man identified as Yinusa who took Ese from her mother's shop in Bayelsa in August 12th 2015, to Kano state where he married her and forced her to change her religion to Islam. When interrogated Yinusa said Ese gave her consent to the marriage. He has also changed her name to Aisha.

Many Nigerians are calling on President Buhari, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo,  Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, governors of Kano and Bayelsa state, Emir of Kano Muhammad Sanusi II and others to work towards the immediate release of Ese.

Man Allegedly Shot Dead By Customs Officers While Smuggling In Bags of Rice

According to a  Wittness, this happened yesterday afternoon February 28th at Illela Road, Sokoto. The driver of the vehicle was allegedly shot dead by customs officers as he smuggled bags of rice. He refused to stop when asked to...which allegedly resulted to his vehicle being shot at.

23, 846 Ghost Workers Removed From Government Payroll, Saves FG N2.293bn


No fewer than 23, 846 ghost workers have been removed from the Federal government's payroll, saving the government N2.293 billion from the total salary bill for the ministries, departments and agencies MDAs for February 2016. According to the Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, who disclosed this over the weekend, Bank Verification Exercise and enrolment to the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) exposed ghost workers that have hitherto been collecting salaries in various MDAs.

The BVN is a unique number that identifies each bank’s customer for “Know Your Customer” (KYC) purposes. The use of BVNs, rather than physical appearance of workers for biometric capture at the initial stage of verification, has significantly simplified and accelerated the progress of the payroll audit process and reduced the cost of implementation.
