Honorable Rotimi Agunsoye Gives Back To His Community.... He Empowers 200 Graduates In Kosofe Local Government.

The House of Representatives member representing Kosofe federal constituency area of Lagos State, Hon. Rotimi Agunsoye, says by putting smiles on the faces of others in meeting their needs, he relaxes too.

For some politicians, politics is simply about convincing people to vote for you, winning elections, serving your term and either returning home at the expiration of it or coming back to your constituency to ask for their votes again and again. Yet, for some others, politics is about the people, who voted you into office and as such, they could go the extra length to make them happy.

A member, House of Representatives from Kosofe Federal Constituency of Lagos State, Hon. Rotimi Agunsoye, is an example of politicians with a passion to give back to their constituencies and according to him, it is his most pleasurable and relaxing experience, when he is able to impact positively on peoples' lives.

To Agunsoye, holding elective office in trust for the people requires energy, time and commitment such that it does not leave ample time to play around. Yet, for him, who has always relished the company of people as a way to unwind, identifying their peculiar needs and meeting those needs - within his capacity - would pass for a perfect pastime. "Politics, particularly for those holding elective offices are quite demanding in the sense that you have to work tirelessly to meet the aspirations of your people at all times. Whenever I am able to do something that puts smiles on the faces of my people, I would say that is what relaxes me.

"I feel very comfortable and happy when I am sure that what I have done is having positive impacts on my constituency and that is my purpose in politics," he said last Monday during a skill acquisition empowerment scheme in the oil and gas, constructions, ICT and agriculture he had organised for 200 graduates. Hon Femi Gbajabiamila, Hon Gbenga Ashafa, Hon Mrs Kemi Nelson, Hon Desmond Elliot and lot more were present at the event.

Unlike most other empowerment schemes, Agunsoye's programme, which is being undertaken in collaboration with Nationwide Apprenticeship Scheme for Technicians, Artisans, Entrepreneurs and Agro-preneurs, is designed to professionally prepare and equip the 200 trainees and secure them with job placement with blue chip companies after the training, even in the establishments, where they received their trainings.

According to the lawmaker, the trainees will also enjoy monthly stipends from him as encouragement in the course of undertaking the various courses, which would last for more than six months. He considers the initiative as a better empowerment package compared to the conventional system where most of the equipment given out is sold. "But with what we are doing, we are not giving them fish (money), instead, we are teaching them how to fish and I can assure you that it will have greater impact."

Asked what his motivation for embarking on the scheme was, Agunsoye said: "I consider it as a way to give back to the people, who brought me to where I am today. One way or the other, these people brought me to where I am today; to step beyond a life and a job I love, to make a commitment to larger course, preserving Kosofe, Lagos State, Yoruba and the Nigerian dream - restoring hopes of the forgotten people of this constituency and reclaiming the future of our children.

"Without mincing words, in today's Nigeria, the ravaging disease facing our economy remains unemployment. It is a terrible thing, but unfortunately it has become an everyday normality. Unfortunately, there is an abundance of workers but not enough jobs. On the other hand, there are plenty of jobs but workers do not have the right skills of experience to handle the jobs. "Either way, these have made unemployment to be on a steady increase, a trend that further plunges the Nigerian economy. It has led to series of societal menaces and it is making living extremely frustrating to the unemployed youths.

"Therefore, on my part, I want to reinvent representation, make it more different - people oriented, efficient and more impacting.

APC National Chairman, John Odigie-Oyegun Takes A 10-Day Break From Politics To Rest

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief John Odigie-Oyegun on Friday disclosed that he will take a 10-day break starting Monday 29th February, 2016 to enable him rest.  In a chat with APC correspondents, he stated that in his absence,‎ the party's Deputy National Chairman (South), Engr. Segun Oni ‎will cover his beat.

‎He dispelled a media report suggesting an "internal strife" in the party and a move to "ease" him out of office. Below is the excerpts from the media chat:
‎‎Odigie-Oyegun's opening remarks -

I have been APC National Chairman for how long now? Going to two years, and it has been a very intense period building the party and a very intense period putting government together up to this point. All that has happened is that I think I deserve a bit of a break and that will start effective Monday.

In my absence, the party's Deputy National Chairman (South), Engr. Segun Oni will cover my beat. It is that simple, it is that straightforward. Any speculation about not being in the office is of no consequence.

On Tuesday I was down with malaria, I managed on Wednesday to attend that crucial meeting at the presidency, yesterday (Thursday) I had to go to the hospital just to be sure and today I am at work, full stop. So please, please, please I know the press is supposed to be imaginative and steer the news but not when there is really nothing to steer. It is that simple.

How long is the break?‎

Ten working days (two weeks). So if you start counting from Monday, you should know when I'll be back. The meeting on Wednesday bothered on such important national issues, chairman or no chairman position has nothing to do with such serious national issues of national importance, which a very serious and select group like that was put together to address so nothing as mundane as whether the future of the chairman is in doubt or not.‎

On reported apologies by a party leader at Wednesday's meeting at the presidency‎

‎As a matter of fact it was most funny that whilst the meeting was on, the social media was already agog with exactly what you just mentioned and somebody read it to us right at the meeting and everyone had a good laugh and that was the end of the matter. Like I said there are serious issues of national importance and that group is one of the most select in the party. It is a group that brings all aspects of government and party at the highest level together so you can infact guess the kind of things that they will be addressing not things as mundane as who is apologizing to who. When eventually some of the issues reach the stage that we have answers, we do not want to call the press and say look, we have these questions and we are trying to work out answers. We'll work on the answers and at the proper time the appropriate person will brief the press.‎

When will the APC Board of Trustees be constituted?

The  Board of Trustees will be meeting on the 22nd of March the day before the National Caucus will be meeting and the NEC of the party will be meeting on the 24th.‎

Will there be replacement of officers at NEC?

The constitution provides the methodology for that and we have to have congresses all over in the interim to fill these vacancies. And the issue that was raised about filling the vacancy left by the exit of Lai Mohammed. You can understand the problem of replacing a man of the performance level of Lai Mohammed so we are still looking. If any of you are very interested you let us know so long as you can match the performance of Lai Mohammed.

It's been almost 9 months since the APC took over government at the federal level, when are Nigerians seeing results?

I do not see how anybody can give you a date but very very soon. I have no doubts at all. The president knows what our national issues are, he knows that a lot of it has international connotations. A group of the World is fighting to be the most highly industrialized. China wants cheap oil because it's a manufacturing hub, India wants cheap oil and a lot of other countries want cheap oil which of course is contrary to our own interest because we want good prices for oil so that we can carry on with our own national development plans. So that is only the tip of the iceberg of what Mr president is doing, trying to talk to those who have an impact in rearranging the international economic realities to change some of the current dynamics that is making oil collapse in such a precipitate manner.
