Read President Buhari's Tribute To Late James Ocholi
The tribute written by President Buhari is entitled "James Ocholi taught us the meaning of loyalty". Read below
How do I begin to pay this tribute to a man who was the epitome of civility, the archetype of intellectualism, and the paragon of loyalty? How do I begin to mourn James Ocholi, whom you can describe as one of my right hand men in the quest to reposition our country, and fashion a land of peace and prosperity, where no man is oppressed?
A lot has been written about Ocholi since the tragic event of March 6, 2016, which took the life of our Minister of State, Labour and Employment, his wife, Blessing, and his son, Joshua. And a lot more will be written, for Ocholi was no mean man. He was a man among men, an Iroko in a forest of trees. How are the mighty fallen!
Among many other positive and pleasant things, I will always remember Ocholi for his loyalty to our beloved country Nigeria, loyalty to our party, the All Progressives Congress, and loyalty to our administration, in which he had served for just about 4 months, before death took him.
In 2011, Ocholi ran to be governor of Kogi State on the platform of our then party, Congress for Progressive Change (CPC). I believed so much in him, and in his ability to add value to the governance of his state, that I followed him round the state on campaign. We visited all the local governments, visited the paramount rulers, and urged the people to vote in a worthy man as governor. But politics is a peculiar game in Nigeria. The best often does not win.
Ocholi did not win. But he bore it gracefully.
In 2015, he threw his hat into the ring again. He sought to be governor on the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC), a party he had helped midwife. He still did not win at the party primaries, an eventuality he bore gracefully again.
When the APC was being negotiated into existence among the Legacy Parties, Ocholi did a yeoman's job, contributing his quota to the legal processes. This he did under a junior lawyer, who was not a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) like him then. But what mattered to Ocholi was the birth of a strong, solid party, which could wrest power at the centre, and bring change to our country. Hierarchy is important in the legal profession, just as it is in the military.
But Ocholi subordinated pride and ego, served under his subordinate, and APC was born.
Dream became reality.
Steadily but sure-footedly, he was part of the Change Cabinet, resolved to bring our country from out of the woods, and pedestal Nigeria among the greats in the comity of nations. Then the unthinkable happened. The Grim Reaper harvested Ocholi. What a pity! Sad and tragic.
But we have this consolation: the departed has taught us fidelity, commitment and loyalty to party, to government, and to God.
He will be sorely missed.

Truck Crushed 10 People To Death On Lagos Ibadan Expressway
More than10 people were crushed to death on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Wednesday after an 18-seater Mazda bus collided with a truck opposite the Four Square camp, in the Ajebo area of Ogun State.
It was gathered that the accident, which occurred at about 2pm, immediately attracted a crowd of sympatisers, who rushed to the scene to assist security agents in taking the victims to nearest hospitals.
Eyewitnesses reveals that those who died were initially taken to the roadside before they were taken away.
The commuter bus with number plate, APP 912 XH, was driving against the traffic (one way) and moving towards Lagos when it rammed into the truck, marked, GGE 338 XL, which was heading for Ibadan, Oyo State.
We gathered that 10 of the passengers in the bus, including its driver, died on the spot while others sustained varying degrees of injuries.
The incident caused a gridlock on the road, but emergency agencies – the Nigeria Police, the Nigerian Army and the Federal Road Safety Corps – arrived at the scene and helped in getting the victims and the bus cleared off the road.
One of the eyewitnesses, Ayobami Adedeji who happens to be the publisher of Urban life magazine posted pictures of the deceased, whose bodies were mangled in the accident, on his Facebook page, noting that no fewer than 10 persons died on the spot.
He said, “The scene of a fatal accident around the Four Square camp, Ajebo, Lagos Ibadan Expressway, Ogun State, was nauseating. The commuter bus collided with the truck while driving against the traffic. No fewer than 10 persons died. Please, avoid that route, there is gridlock.”
Another witness, who identified himself as Raji, said the foodstuffs conveyed by the bus littered the road. He said the victims were traders, adding that he was frightened by the severed bodies of the dead.
“The scene was very gory. I counted nine bodies lying on the road. Some of them had their legs and hands cut off. The bus driver smashed his head against the steering and died. I learnt that they were traders travelling to Lagos. They are all males. It was terrible,” he said.
Raji blamed the accident on the impatience of the bus driver, saying he drove against the traffic.
“Apart from the 10 persons that died, several others were injured and the bus was badly damaged. An accident like this is avoidable if drivers will learn to comply with the traffic law. Why drive against the traffic? It is totally wrong,” he added.
The Head of Operations, FRSC, Ogun State Command, Deputy Corps Commander, Divis Ogiamiem, said the accident was caused by wrongful overtaking by the driver of the commercial bus at a section of the road where there was a traffic diversion.
He said, “The cause of the crash was wrongful overtaking and loss of control by the driver of the Mazda bus. He was travelling from Ibadan to Lagos; it was in that process that the driver rammed the bus into an oncoming Iveco truck, travelling to Ibadan.
“Ten people died, while others were injured. The accident occurred around 2.10pm today (Wednesday).”
Ogiamiem said the corpses of the victims had been deposited in the mortuary of the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu.
He also added that six injured passengers were receiving treatment in the same hospital.
Group Plans Class Lawsuit Against Bank Charges
This is a press release by Citizens Against Exploitation.
It is unfortunate when a nation has as leaders, individuals that lack vision, and are not creative enough to turn the fortunes of the country around for the better.
In the pa
st, in fact since 1960, our collective wealth from our resources have been stolen with nothing to show for it.
Today, the dynamics is changing with oil produced at a loss, it appears what is left to steal is now our individual sweat not in agreed taxation but through levies, charges, and all sorts that are alien to regular banking practices anywhere in the world, from our bank accounts.
A boycott banking services protest was called for on 1 March 2016 but it appeared it was not as effective as it should have been and the government through its agent, the CBN has come up with more charges. To that is the question asked, would these charges continue in different forms till our actual monies in our personal accounts be converted to government's money.
This is a call for a more decisive action to once and for all stop these arbitrary and illegal charges from our accounts.
In the next few days, we would send out a form to carry out a class action against CBN and the individual banks for these illegal and fraudulent deductions from our accounts.
Lawyers who are willing to also participate in this should indicate their interest for this history making judicial action.

“The suspects were arrested at about 12.30 a.m. on March 11 for illegally boarding Merchant Vessel CITRON berthed at Capital Oil Jetty, Apapa, Lagos.
“They were detected and subsequently arrested by our patrol boat.”

One of the stowaways, Olu said he was not happy with his standard of living which prompted him to attempt to enter Europe illegally.

CBN Reacts To Reports That They Are Illegally Recruiting Children Of Top Politicians Alone.
The Central Bank of Nigeria has reacted to the public outcry of an illegal recruitment exercise allegedly carried out by the apex bank. Sahara Reporters on Tuesday March 15th, reported that the bank employed the children of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, IGP Solomon Arase and others to some key positions in the bank.
The list of beneficiaries of the CBN’s secret job recruitment includes a daughter of former Vice President Abubakar Atiku, a son of Mamman Daura, a nephew of President Buhari and one of the closest members of the president’s inner circle, a son of the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu, a daughter of former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ghali Na’aba, also daughter of of the Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, a son of the Minister of Internal Affairs, Abdurahman Danbazzau and at least 86 others.
This report has sparked up public outcry as many believe that the bank should have publicized the job openings for many other people to to apply.
However in an interview with Premium Times yesterday March 16th, the CBN’s acting Director of Corporate Communications, Isaac Okorafor said the bank did nothing illegal or wrong in hiring without advertising.
“In the last two years, we have had cause to recruit specialists, and what the law says is that if we are going for that kind of recruitment we should apply for waiver, so that we can do targeted recruitment" He said the bank obtained waiver from the Federal Character Commission. “The other issue is that there are states that are not well represented (in the CBN), and in this case we focus on those states to recruits people of certain classes that we used to cover the shortfall in those states,”he said
Kebbi State Governor's Wife Comes To The Aid Of 10-Year-Old Girl Whose 22-Year-Old Mother Is Mentally-Challenged
Dr Zainab Atiku Bagudu, wife of Kebbi State Governor on Tuesday, March 15, came to the aid of 10-year-old Sidika Bako whose mother, aged 22, is mentally challenged, following a report she received on the girl's poor poor condition. The woman's husband who also resides in Birnin Kebbi reportedly abandoned them after she developed mental illness. Below is the report by Sabatu A. Yakubu & Haruna A. Atiku ...
"Improving social well-being of the general public, including physically and mentally challenged persons is one of the key social services expected of a well-meaning government. Kebbi State Government has been working seriously on putting a system in place which will put to an end the menace of drug abuse, reducing the burden of mentally retarded or challenged persons and improved health services through various interventions, including rehabilitating and providing psychosocial support services in social rehabilitation centres, improving educational systems, upgrading educational institutions, supporting and equipping hospitals, among others.
The Wife of the Kebbi State Governor on Tuesday 15th of March 2016 has extended such social support to a young girl and her mentally challenged mother. Dr Zainab Atiku Bagudu came to their aid following a report she received on the condition of both Sidika Bako aged 10 years and the mother aged 22 years. It is believed that the father of the girl also reside in Birnin Kebbi, but abandoned them following the mental illness developed by the mother. What caught the attention of the Government House Housekeeper, Hajiya Hajara Nagode was the mothers persistent backing of the 10 year old girl, which is weird. She immediately informed the Governors wife of the situation, who immediately came to their rescue. It was gathered that the both mother and the girl were residing in the mothers family house along with her brother in Birnin Kebbi, but medical attention could not be sought for her due to financial challenge. They usually go out in search of alms and even trek from Birnin Kebbi to Sokoto, but it was learnt that they always sleep at home. Dr Bagudu immediately directed that the girl be taken to a safer residence in Birnin Kebbi, and has taken full responsibility of young Sidika’s education. Infact, enrolment of the girl into school has already started. The Governor’s Wife further ordered for providing immediate medical attention to the mother, and has also taken full responsibility of the medical bills. The woman is presently in Physiatric and Rehabilitation Center, Jega LGA of the State. The hospital officials disclosed that the woman is responding well to treatment and may likely be back to her senses in about six weeks."
