'Buhari Lacks The Capacity To Rule Nigeria' - Professor Nwabueze

Professor Ben Nwabueze, a renowed Lawyer and President of the Patriots, a revered group of Elder statesmen in Nigeria, says President Buhari lacks the intellectual capacity to rule a complex country like Nigeria. Nwabueze said this in an interview with The Sun newspaper.
"I do not think that it is a question of not being prepared. Don't forget that the 2015 election was his fourth time of contesting, of making an attempt at being President. He tried to be president for 12 years. So, he had more than enough time to prepare himself if he had the capacity. So, it is not that he was not prepared. The fact is that he lacks the capacity to govern as the problems are beyond him.
Even if you give him 20 years to prepare, it would still be beyond his capacity. Nigeria is a very complex country. I have told you before, that we have 389 ethnic nationalities. The complexities and the issues involved in ruling such a country are huge. Leading such a complex country is an intellectual issue and Buhari does not have the intellectual capacity to comprehend what it means to govern the country"he said

Abike Dabiri Says Nigeria Is To Have A Diaspora Policy Soon

The Presidency is set to partner the National Assembly on a new policy to carter for the needs and inclusiveness of Nigerians in Diaspora.

Mrs Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Diaspora and Foreign Relations gave this cheering news when she led a delegation to visit the Chairman, Senate Committee on Diaspora,  Sen. Rose Oko in Abuja on Tuesday.

She said that the potentials of Nigerians in the diaspora could not be effectively harnessed without a Diaspora policy and a commission to carter for the  Nigerians in the Diaspora.

``We must have a Diapora Policy as soon as possible, Nigeria does not have Diaspora policy, so the first thing we would be doing is crafting a Diaspora policy.

``We will be working with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the House and Senate Committee on Diaspora to craft this policy on Diaspora matters.

``This policy would be like a thrust  for every other thing that we are going to do and work on that will start very soon, we are going to get every Nigerian in the diaspora to contribute to the policy.

``Without the policy we cannot do anything so that is very critical, and of course the Diaspora Commission Bill is also very critical,” she said.

She recalled that the Bill to create a Diaspora Commission was passed by the 7thAssembly but was not assented to and therefore urged the 8th National Assembly to revisit the bill.

She said that with the policy and the commission, it would be important to have a database of Nigerians in the Diaspora with a view to reaping good benefits from them.

She added that the nation may be ignoring an untapped resource by not accommodating the Nigerians in Diaspora who has remitted over $21 billion dollars annually to the country.

``There is no better time to have Nigerians in Diapora collaborating to get the best for Nigeria.
``The issue of Diaspora voting is also important but that would depend on the National Assembly if they decide to amend the constitution to make this possible.

``Perhaps the economic survival of Nigeria could depend a lot on the Nigerians in the Diaspora, if they were able to remit $21 billion in 2014 they can be able to do more.

``President Buhari is willing that is why for the first time he has an SSA on Diaspora, we have a committee in the Senate, we have a committee in the House.

``We have committed Nigerians in the diaspora who are contributing to the World economy so we have no excuse not to tap into this enormous human resource.

``Because of its importance, 26 countries have formed ministries for the diaspora, we should not let other countries beat us to it because ours is part of the largest population,”” she said.

In her remarks, Sen. Oko said that the Senate was committeed to passing the bill establishing the Diaspora Commission adding that it had already scaled first reading in the Senate.

The lawmaker said that the Senate was already looking at all the key areas that the SSA mentioned, adding that any part that required the intervention of the senate would be immediately addressed.

``We will work with you and also with Nigerians in the Diaspora to look at how we can get Foreign Direct Investments from Nigerians in the Diaspora.

The issue of Diaspora Commission would be addressed by this Senate, we would also look at the Policy on diaspora and make our contributions too,” she said.

The Senator noted that it was pertinent for the nation to know the number of its nationals abroad and how they were fairing so as to be able to intervene in the event of unjust treatment.

She urged Nigerians in the Diaspora to be worthy ambassadors of Nigeria, stressing that Nigeria would not stick its neck out for any Nigerians who disobeys the laws of the country of residence.

Sister Of Late Doctor Killed In Accident Caused By Ibinabo Fiberesima Writes, She Says After 10 Years........Justice At Last!

Biola Giwa-Adeyemi is late Dr Giwa's sister and she shed more light on the case between Ibinabo Fiberersima Vs Lagos State. Read what she sent in below...
First of all, the case was between Lagos state Government Vs Ibinabo Febresima but not Giwa Vs Ibinabo Febresima. On this faithful day of Feb 26th 2006 along the Lekki Epe Express way, my late brother Dr Giwa was driving with his brother and another family friend in his car coming from a meeting in Ajah, they were held up in a traffic around the evening time, when this tragic accident happened.

Ibinabo was driving towards Lekki while the late Dr Giwa was coming from the other direction facing towards Island, just by shop-rite, when ibinabo's jeep flipped and lost control from her lane jumped over the culvert or pavement  that demarcate the road from the on coming vehicle. The speed that skipped and flipped a jeep  over the road demarcation will be considered "Reckless and Endangerment" because the VIO dept checked the jeep brakes, the engine and all the mechanical and electrical of the jeep but the result shows nothing wrong with the jeep and confirm that the accident as due to "OVER SPEEDING" in which the result was on record.

After the accident, Ibinabo left the scene of the accident without checking for any survivors, she took the license plate and registration out of the car and fled from the scene, that was considered "HIT AND RUN". The people at the scene of the accident recognized her as Ibinabo Febresima, and stated she was drunk."Driving Under Influence" of whatever she had. The State Department of Transportation has to use the VIN number to locate the Owner of the jeep, in which the owner was Daniel Wilson. That was my very first time of hearing the name of Ibinabo Febresima. The Doctor died at the scene of the accident because the jeep was on top of the Honda accord driven by him and they couldn't save him on time because of the seat belt and the weight of the jeep, the brother and the other family friend in that car had survived. Did she know the state of mind and the emotional instability of the people involved in that accident up till now, Ibinabo has never been in a Comma.
After all the evidences against her, with the result of the VIO by the State department of Transportation, The DPP office took over and charged her to court and she hired Festus Kiamo in which after reviewing the case he withdrew by saying he cannot represent her because it's a bad case.

Doctor Giwa has a living mother for goodness sake, wife with 3 children's, Ibinabo deprived him from seeing his children graduate from university and getting married, also from being the one to bury his mother at her old age, "Whereas no one ever prayed that on the day of their children's success and happiness they should replaced them with someone else".
Ibinabo was never remorseful, they brought her to meet with me shortly after my brother's death in GRA Ikeja before my return back to the USA, but her only concern then was to drop the charges against her. I told her that it's not my family Vs her but the State Vs her, that where I come from in USA that we do not interfere with the justice system, that they should do their job and advise her to apologize publicly to the masses and to the family and throw herself to the mercy of the court. She said and l quote "I CAN'T DO THAT, BECAUSE IS GOING TO DAMAGE MY CAREER" what an ego, she cannot apologize publicly, I feel like kicking her ass. She's worried about her stupid career, What happened to the career of the Doctor, who happened to be a 'MEDICAL DIRECTOR AND THE HEAD OF THE DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICAL REHABILITATION MEDICINE AT GENERAL HOSPITAL LAGOS.
People say there is no justice in Nigeria, but it does once in awhile. The lower court magistrate O.A Isaac found her guilty with the option of 100

Senate President Bukola Saraki Says The Gender And Equal Opportunity Bill Will Be “Reintroduced”

The 8th Senate’s rejection of the Gender and Equality bill elicited a lot of outrage from Nigerians who viewed the lawmakers’ rejection as insensitive to the plight of the Nigerian woman.

But that was not for too long, as Senate President, Bukola Saraki, in response to a tweet by Japheth Omojuwa this had said that the bill will make a return, that it only suffered a set back.

See the tweets below.

Senator Bukola Saraki also posted on his Facebook page:

Today, we discussed the Domestication of the Provisions of the United Nations Convention Eliminating all forms of discrimination against women under A Bill For An Act To Incorporate and Enforce Certain Provisions of The United Nations Convention On The Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women – the protocol to the African Charter on Human and People’s Rights on the Rights of Women in Africa, and Other Matters Connected Therewith.

As I said during the International Womens Day last week, I am of the opinion that there are substantial parts of the bill that are crucial to the development of our nation such as the Equal Access to Education, strengthening of the laws on Violence against Women, Ending Abduction of girls, Sustenance and Promotion of Entrepreneurship opportunities, Gender Mainstreaming and Gender equality, female participation in governance, among others.

Unfortunately, the bill suffered a slight set back because there were some parts of the Bill that some Senators disagreed with along the lines of religion and tradition. The beauty of democracy is that it gives us the opportunity to consider different opinions and this bill can still be represented and reconsidered on the floor of the Senate

I have it on good authority that Senator Biodun Olujimi who introduced this bill will reintroduce it after re-drafting it to address some of the reservations that were expressed on the floor of the Senate.

"Without Immigrants, Trump Would Have No Wives"

She really nailed it, after all.... Donald Trump's first wife, Ivana and his present one Melania, were both immigrants originally from Czechoslovakia and Slovenia, respectively. Moreover, the Republican presidential candidate is also the son and grandson of immigrants. Isn't that more than a little ironic for one so against immigrants and immigration?

Lawyer slumps, dies in court

Tragedy struck on Tuesday, when a lawyer slumped and died at the premises of the Lagos State Magistrates’ Court sitting in Igbosere.
The deceased, identified only as ‘Chidi’, was scheduled to appear as defence counsel for two men: Okedairo Okedeji, 38, and Akolade Agbola, 28, who were alleged to have stolen meat and snail worth N28,000 from Southern Sun Hotel in Ikoyi, Lagos.
The men had been arraigned on February 29, and were out on bail after meeting the conditions set by Magistrate (Mrs.) F. M Dalley.
The deceased was due to represent them Tuesday at their trial, but he and the defendants arrived in court after the case had been called and adjourned till April 14.
The Nation learnt that he apologised to the court for their lateness and explained that it was due to heavy traffic.
He also tried to plead with the Magistrate for a change in the adjourned date, but in the course of pleading, he was cut short by fits of coughing and began gasping for breath.
When the coughing would not stop, he started clutching his chest and gasping, ‘Obim!’ ‘Obim!’, the Igbo word for ‘My chest!’ ‘My chest!’
Those around quickly helped him, unloosen his tie and helped him outside the courtroom to get fresh air.
He pleaded that they should help him get a cab to take him home.
As he was rushed downstairs, he appeared to have lost consciousness and one of his clients carried him on the back down the staircase.
By the time the cab arrived he had stopped breathing.
The apprehensive cab driver was persuaded to take him to the Lagos Island General hospital and the deceased was put in the vehicle and driven away.
The cab driver returned returned minutes later with him to the court premises and declined to carry a corpse in his taxi for fear of police harassment.
The Nation learnt that his corpse was eventually deposited at the Lagos Island General Hospital morgue.
