Minister Of Industry, Trade And Investment, Urges National Assembly To Review Laws And Practices To Suit Industry, Trade And Investement
Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Okechukwu Enelamah
Speaking at the ongoing sectoral debate to find strategies to diversify the Nigeria’s economy, Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment, Okechukwu Enelamah called on the National Assembly to review some laws and practices to provide for an enabling environment for industry, trade, and investment.
According to Enelamah, the Nigerian economy is more diversified than it seems. He said that the oil sector which has historically accounted for three-quarter of the government’s revenues and as much as 90 per cent of the foreign exchange earnings, actually contributes only 14 per cent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
“We need legislative backing and intervention to reform some of the laws and practices that have been holding back our economy,” he said.
Some of the laws he urged the lawmakers to look into to were Company and Allied Matters Decree, the Railway Corporation, and Postal Services Acts.
The Minister also appealed to the National Assembly to fast track work on the Independent Warehouse Regulatory Agency bill. He also pushed for secured transactions in Movable Assets bill to unlock potentials for the Micro Small and Medium Enterprises.

FG To Launch “Change Begins With Me” Campaign To Curb Indiscipline
Nigeria’s Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed has said that the Federal Government is in the process of launching a massive nationwide campaign tagged “Change Begins With Me”.
Mohammed who made the statement during a courtesy visit to the corporate headquarters of The Guardian, noted that the soon to be launched campaign followed requests by people who have approached the government over what they considered the distorted values in our society.
According to him,
They are worried about the erosion of values, widespread indiscipline, dwindling integrity, poor attitude to work, etc. They say it is time for the government to launch another War Against Indiscipline, WAI.
If the Danfo driver will stop drinking “paraga” before hitting the road, if the patent medicine store operator will stop selling fake drugs, if the average worker will carry out his or her duties diligently, our society will be a better place.
He noted that the campaign will begin with a Summit on National Rebirth, Values and Ethics in July.
The minister also said that the 2016 budget will be used to lift Nigerians out of poverty.
“We plan to do this through six social intervention areas that will greatly impact on the economy as well as on lives: 500,000 graduates are to be employed and trained as teachers, 370,000 non-graduates (artisans, technicians) to be trained and employed; one million people (farmers, market women, etc) to be granted loans to set up small businesses; Conditional Cash Transfer to be made to the most vulnerable people (not unemployed graduates); School Feeding targeting 4.5 million school children and Bursaries/Scholarships for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) students,” he said.

Young Mother Of Two, Ronke Bewaji Shonde Allegedly Beaten To Death By Her Husband This Morning At Their Home In Egbeda
Ronke Bewaji Shonde (pictured above) was allegedly beaten to death by her husband this morning May 6th at their home at Tiemo Crescent off Awori street in Egbeda Lagos. According to family friend, Ronke and her husband had a fight in the early hours of this morning at their home while their kids were sleeping. One neighbour later said he heard the noise coming from their flat early this morning but didn't think it was something horrific going on in the home.
Around 7am, the couple's nanny came to the house to resume work only to find the house locked and no one was opening the door. She tried to call her madam but her phone was switched off. She peeped through the window only to find the couple's 6 and 4 year old kids crying and saying they couldn't wake their mum up. By this time, neighbours had also gathered and they forcefully opened the door to find Ronke's lifeless body on the floor, blood gushing from her head.
The husband, Lekan Shonde, was nowhere to be found. Ronke's phone was also missing. He'd locked the kids with their dead mum in the house and took off with her phones.
Her body has since been deposited at the mortuary. She was in her mid-30s.
According to family friends, Ronke suffered domestic violence in her husband's hands for many years but refused to leave the marriage. Sad it took her losing her life for this to end. Quite sad!
Ladies, please say no to domestic violence. Please. No marriage is worth your life!

The middle aged level twelve judicial officer with Oleh High Court, was on her way to her daughter's wedding when she was killed by one of the soldiers deployed to enforce the no-movement restriction during environmental sanitation at Jakpa Junction, Uvwie council area of Delta State on April 30, 2016.
According to Sahara Reporters, the son of the deceased, Shedrack Aktarobi, appealed to the State and federal governments to immediately intervene in the matter and ensure that the culprits are held accountable for their actions.
The deceased reportedly boarded a commercial tricycle to a relative’s home near the venue of the wedding in order to make it on time, due to the restriction of movement. The soldiers were said to have flagged down the tricyclist claiming it was not yet 10 a.m. When the driver refused to stop, one of the soldiers fired a at the tricycle, as the rider was apparently not going to stop, killing the woman.

Former US Presidents George W Bush Snr And Jnr Will Not Endorse Donald Trump's Candidacy For President
For the first time since his own presidency, former President George H.W. Bush Snr is planning to stay silent in the race for the Oval Office and the younger former president Bush plans to stay silent as well.
George W Bush Snr will not endorse Donald Trump's candidacy for president, his aides have told local media. This marks a first for the 91-year-old, who has endorsed Republicans in the past five elections.
Bush had campaigned this year for former Florida Governor Jeb Bush, who exited the race in February and had supported past Republican presidential nominees John McCain in 2008 and Mitt Romney in 2012.
Trump is now the presumptive Republican Party representative for the U.S Presidency elections.
“At age 91, President Bush is retired from politics,” Donald Trump's spokesman Jim McGrath told The Texas Tribune.
“He came out of retirement to do a few things for Jeb, but those were the exceptions that proved the rule.” His son Jeb Bush dropped out of the GOP presidential race in February.
Bush Jnr meanwhile, "does not plan to participate in or comment on the presidential campaign," according to his personal aide, Freddy Ford.
