32 Yr Old Woman Allegedly Murdered By Husband In Katsina Over Her Inheritance
Late Fatima Ibrahim was allegedly killed by her husband over the money she inherited from her father. Her lifeless body was discovered in bed, with blood trickling out from her mouth and bruises on her face at her residence. Until her death, the deceased, a 32-year-old mother of one was a teacher at Zubairu Pilot Primary school in Dutsinma town, Katsina State, where she teaches Basic Science.
A Biology graduate of Usman Dan Fodio University, Sokoto, she was married to Umar Manu, a staff of the Federal University Dutsinma, Information and Communication Department, from Zaria, Kaduna State and is the prime suspect in the case. The couple have a three-year-old son.
According to Daily Trust, late Fatima predicament began when her father, Alhaji Ibrahim Habibu died in December 2014 and she inherited his wealth. He was until his death a regional manager with a major bank in Sokoto.
Late Fatima’s uncle and spokesman of the family, Babangida Habibu said that since the death of her father, Manu was desperate to get his hands on Fatima’s share of the inheritance which was divided among late Alhaji Habibu’s children.
"On our part as family, we resolved to do all possible to protect his property, and committee was set up to share the inheritance appropriately, making sure accounts were opened for each and every one, with each share of money lodged within."
Habibu said about seven months back, his niece reported her husband’s changing attitude and the family had to intervene, and invited him along with his parents to resolve their issues. The deceased later came back with more complaints.

Senator Gbenga Ashafa Reacts To Reports of Non-Inclusion Of Lagos-Calabar Rail Project In 2016 Budget
Chairman of the Senate Committee on Land Transport, Gbenga Ashafa, has reacted to reports about the non-inclusion of the Lagos-Calabar rail project in the 2016 budget. According to Ashafa, the project was never included in the original budget presented to the senate by President Buhari but was however included in a supplementary budget brought to the Senate by the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi. Read his statement below
I have carefully followed the news items making the rounds in relation to the budget presented to the National Assembly and what was defended by the Ministry of Transport before the Senate Committee on Land Transport which I have the privilege of chairing.
The focal points of controversy seem to be the Lagos to Calabar railway modernisation projects and the completion of the Idu – Kaduna rail line.
I confirm that the Lagos to Calabar rail line was not in the original document that was presented to the National Assembly by the Executive. However subsequently at the budget defense session before the Senate Committee on Land Transport, the Hon. Minister for Transport, Rotimi Amaechi, did inform the committee of the omission of the Lagos to Calabar rail modernisation project and indeed sent a supplementary copy of the ministry's budget to the committee which contained the said project.
The minister noted that the amount needed for the counterpart funding for both the Lagos to Kano and Lagos to Calabar rail modernisation projects was in the sum of 120 Billion Naira, being 60 Billion Naira per project.
While the committee did not completely agree with all the changes made in the subsequent document, being fully aware of the critical importance of the rail sector to the development of our dear country, distinguished members of the Senate Committee on Land transport keyed into the laudable (Lagos to Calabar, rail modernisation) project and found ways of appropriating funds for the project without exceeding the envelope provided for the ministry.
In so doing, the committee observed that the Lagos to Kano rail rehabilitation project had been allocated the sum of N52 Billion Naira as against the sum of 60 billion which the Hon. Minister requested as counterpart funding while no allocation whatsoever was made for the Lagos to Calabar rail line.
Hence, the sum of 54 billion Naira that was discovered by the Senate Committee on Land Transport to be floating in the budget of the Ministry of Transportation as presented by the Executive was injected into augmenting the funds needed for counterpart funding of both projects (Lagos to Kano and Lagos to Calabar Rail modernisation), as at the time the committee defended its report before the senate committee on Appropriation. The Lagos to Calabar rail modernisation project was therefore included in the Senate Committee on Land Transports recommendation to the Senate Committee on Appropriations.
With regard to the Idu to Kaduna rail completion, the Senate Committee on Land Transport did not interfere with what was provided for in the budget as sent by the executive, being approximately 18 Billion Naira hence I am equally surprised to read on the pages of the newspapers that the amount allocated to the said project was reduced by 8 Billion Naira.
While I would have preferred to wait till Tuesday 12th April, 2016 when the National Assembly reconvenes in order to have the benefit of viewing the details of the budget that was conveyed to the executive as passed, I am compelled to place the facts in proper perspective as it relates to the activities of the Senate Committee on Land Transport.
Without prejudice to the considerations and powers of the Senate Committee on Appropriations with regard to the appropriations process, the foregoing is the true reflection of what transpired at the committee level with respect to the Land Transport sector of the Ministry of Transport.

Nigerian Fashion Editor Dimeji Alara Goes Hollywood
Paris-born, Nigerian fashion editor and stylist Dimeji Alara has been asked to join the American and South African co-production of ‘The Blue Mauritius.’ An action packed, international heist film in the vein of ‘Ocean’s Eleven’ and ‘The Italian Job.’ The film’s production is set to begin in August 2016 in Cape Town, with other locations to include London, Berlin, Tokyo and Paris.
‘The Blue Mauritius’ is about five international thieves hired by a mysterious person from Mauritius to steal the most valuable stamps in the world that leads them to a treasure on the island. Mr. Alara was brought on board the production to style it’s very international cast, which includes actors from Germany, Brazil, France, England, South Africa, Egypt and the United States. His mandate is to bring in designers from the continent to give the film a more authentic feel and to showcase some of Africa’s most celebrated designers and rising stars in fashion.
“We are thrilled to have Dimeji join the production, says Dexter Davis, the film’s New York-based executive producer and CEO of D Street Media Group. This movie is hopefully something new for Africa. We wanted to make a truly African film with an international cast and not just a movie shot on location in Africa. Our goal is to make African films that can travel and hopefully by bringing our American sensibility to the story and production value, we give these sort of films the opportunity to play well in the U.S. and around the world. We could not have made a better pick than Dimeji Alara as the stylist, his keen sense of style and his experience in the fashion industry is indispensable. We look forward to a long and fruitful working relationship.”
Mr. Alara has jumped right in and has chosen Nigerian designer Amaka Osakwe of Maki Oh to work with him on the production. Osakwe is no stranger to Hollywood; her clothes has adorned the backs of international stars such as Beyonce, Rihanna, Kerry Washington of ‘Scandal’ fame and of course the U.S. First Lady, Michelle Obama to name a few.
“It’s so exciting to be given the opportunity to express my creativity in a medium that is synonymous with fashion, says Alara. When the producers asked me to get involved, it was very intriguing. However, I wasn’t quite sure I was up for it, but after reading the script and understanding the significance of a project like this in Africa I could not say no. I’m very blessed to be given the opportunity to have the freedom to bring African elements to the film and can’t wait to show the world what African style looks like.”
‘The Blue Mauritius’ is also executive produced by American actor, rapper, television personality and media mogul Nick Cannon (America’s Got Talent, Chi-Raq) and producers Tim Theron and Cobus van den Berg of Kaapland Films in South Africa. The film will be directed by British director Charles Henri Belleville, who’s wrapping up his second collaboration with Oscar-nominated British actor Tom Hardy (Revenant, Mad Max).

Suspect Confesses To Stealing N2.7m From 80-Year-Old Woman To Process His Travelling Documents.
A suspect who allegedly conned an 80-year-old woman out of N2.7 million has confessed to having used the money to process his travelling documents to South Africa, Vanguard reports.
Ayokunle Ibikunle, 34 , a graduate of Animal Health and Reproduction at Federal College of Animal Health, Ibadan, Oyo State, said:
"I used N750, 000 from the money to process my travelling documents. I wanted to travel to South Africa. Unfortunately, it didn’t work out. After it failed, I gave N400, 000 cash to Kasali to supply me cattle to enable me begin a little ranch, while I used the remaining money miscellaneous things like travelling to Abuja, Lagos and staying in hotels."
It was gathered Mrs Felicia Oketokun, popularly called Mama in Ibadan, a poultry farm produce dealer received a call from the suspect who claimed he had 3,000 poultry birds for sale at Seion Farms in Olorunda, Ibadan.
"After negotiations, Mrs Oketokun sent one of her workers to Seion’s Farms where he met with Ayo and inspected the birds. After inspecting the birds and certifying them okay for purchase, Oketokun’s staffer was said to have requested for Seion Farms account details to enable his boss make payment for the poultry birds. But the suspect allegedly convinced him to pay the money into the bank account of his friend, Saeed. It was gathered that immediately after Mama Oketokun paid N2.7M in the said account for the birds, Ayo went with Saeed and withdrew the entire money without giving the money to Seion Farms or supplying the products to the victim. Thereafter, he went underground, living largely in hotels in Ibadan, Abuja and Lagos".
He was consequently arrested on March 29, 2016 at Ibadan after operatives of X-Squad tracked him down. Narrating his story to Sunday Vanguard, the suspect said:
"I am from Ekiti State but I am based in Ibadan. I was arrested because I took N2.7M from a client. I knew her through an agent. I used to buy and sell old layers, boilers, point of lay and other kinds of poultry bird. I help farm owners to treat their sick birds. I have been in this business for over eight years. I studied animal health and reproduction at Federal College of Animal Health, Ibadan.
"I didn’t take her money intentionally. I paid Saeed N500, 000 to allow me use his bank account for the transaction as I didn’t want to use my personal account. He withdrew N2m for me and later gave me N200,000. He knew the money was from the proceeds of fraudulent transaction. I used N750,000 from the money to process my travelling documents as I wanted to travel to South Africa.
"Unfortunately, it didn’t work out; so I gave N400,000 cash to an acquaintance, Kasali, to supply me cattle to begin my cattle farm, while I spent the balance on miscellaneous things like travelling and staying in hotels."
"Although I have not seen her before now, this is not the first time I am doing transaction with Mama. Usually, we do transactions and negotiations on phone. When I saw Mama yesterday for the first time, I started weeping because I didn’t know she was very old. I know what I did is wrong. I feel very bad now that I have been arrested. Contrary to the allegation that I defrauded my fiancé’s father, I did not. We only had some business transaction that went sour"

You Are An Expired Politician, Ekiti Assembly Tells Olowoporoku
The Ekiti State House of Assembly has described the remarks by former Minister of Science and Technology, Dr Bode Olowoporoku, that the House has only one university graduate as member as not only spurious, but one that came from the mouth of an expired politician like the former Second Republic minister.
In a statement in Ado-Ekiti on Sunday by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. (Pastor) Kola Oluwawole, the Assembly said Olowoporoku, despite his academic prowess, was only known for rebellion and formenting trouble.
Oluwawole, in the statement signed by his Special Assistant (Media), Stephen Gbadamosi, said the former senator had been confined to the dustbin of history in the state’s political firmament and that he was only seeking relevance.
"While we are not conceding to the thoughtless statement, let us assume it is true; how can there be only one graduate in an Assembly where you have a medical doctor, two seasoned journalists, a cleric, retired top civil servants, among others.
“The beauty of democracy is that these so-called illiterates were voted into office by the people of the state who had earlier rejected people like Olowoporoku.
"The same people recently took the invasion of their offices and the detention of a colleague to the court of public opinion and they impressed all. Olowoporoku never found his voice then. He is broke and he is a spent force. Olowoporoku is a rebel and he was among those who created the political chaos in 1983 in the old Ondo State.
"Those who know his background know that his sanity is questionable. Senility has already set in for him, but we don't want to help wash his dirty linen in public. He has spent his life in rebellion.
“The Assembly members he is castigating were voted into office by the people of Ekiti State, the same people who rejected him. He is probably broke and looking for relevance as well as somebody who will grease his palms," the statement read.
The Speaker added that no amount of distraction would make supporters of Ayo Fayose to dump him, saying “he is a God’s project that no human can truncate. The authority of all elected officials, including Fayose, is from God Almighty. If Olowoporoku still wants to contest in an election at over 80 years, or he is sponsoring his son, he is welcome. We think he needs attention and he will get none.”
