Ondo State Governor Mimiko Inaugurates The First University Of Medical Sciences In Nigeria

Governor Olusegun Mimiko is showing support to the educational sector by officially opening the first University of Medical Sciences in Nigeria.

The event also marked the school’s first student matriculation and the Governor was the chief guest.

Her Determination Is Inspiring! This Nigerian Woman Has Graduated With A First Class After Spending 16 Years In Four Different Universities

The story of Oluwamayo Ojumah is making rounds today and it is definitely an inspiring story.

She was one of the high-flying graduating students in the last convocation of the University of Lagos. She graduated with a CGPA of 4.51 but that is not the only thing inspiring about her story. She is a married woman who has had many failed attempts at studying medicine that took her from Ogun state, to the UK, and then to Okada in Edo state, before finally graduating with a First class from the Department of Biochemistry, University of Lagos.

In an interview with Saturday Vanguard, she narrated how she got into OOU, immediately after her secondary school education to study Applied Zoology.

According to her, she was to be transferred to Medicine if she performed well; but she was not because she couldn’t grasp the scope of the course. She left in her 200 level to the UK to study medicine but could not continue due to the financial strain it would have on her parents. Then, she and her parents agreed that she should come back to Nigeria.

In 2009, she got into Igbinedion University to study medicine but failed to pass the MBBS exams after siting twice for it. She had the option of repeating the class or going abroad again to study medicine but everything was thwarted when her mother passed on in March 2011.

Determined and relentless, she did the foundation programme in the University of Lagos, after which she was admitted through Direct Entry to 200 Level to study Biochemistry.

Speaking on how she was able to come out with a first class, she said, “I didn’t just depend on class notes. I used YouTube… I can read from 8pm – 6am. My husband was also very supportive because I used to watch movies a lot but he ensured that I did not fail to read… He would wake me up at night… to read…. In fact, I prayed like I was not reading, and read like I was not praying.”

Her husband, Felix Ojumah, a Petroleum Engineer, added, “We are happy that people who feel that they can’t make it would find it encouraging…. There is need for people to utilize any opportunity at their disposal to actualize their goal.”

There’s really no stopping a determined mind.

Horror In Cameroon As A Woman Was Left With No Choice Than To Use Blade To Operate On Her Dead Sister To Save The Twins In Her Belly

Yesterday in Cameroon, one of the most horrific thing anyone can Imagine happened. A pregnant woman got to the hospital in a taxi and upon arrival she was found dead, but the twins in her belly were kicking(crying for air). The family rushed her to Laquantini Hospital in Douala Cameroon and begged the doctors to remove the babies but they refused and asked the woman's family to take her to the morgue.
The family argued that the babies were still alive and kicking inside the dead woman but the hospital refused to touch her, frustrating the deceased's sister, who took matters in her own hands and decided to operate on her sister with a blade. One baby came out dead and the other came out breathing but later gave up the ghost. What a terrible situation.

Emefiele Suspends CBN Deputy Governor, 4 Others

In a hard-line decision, a deputy governor of Central Bank of Nigeria and four deputy directors have been suspended by the apex bank Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, for failing to follow financial regulations and due process, leading to the scamming of the bank by fraudsters.

THISDAY reported that the suspended Deputy Governor, Financial System Surveillance, Joseph Nnanna, responded to some spam emails without first cross-checking the authenticity of the mails and following CBN stringent payment process before authorising the release of funds when the governor and several senior officials of the bank were on a flight to China last month.


The names of the affected deputy directors could not be ascertained but they include the deputy director in charge of payment, the deputy director trade and exchange department, and the deputy director in the office of the governor, who heeded Nnanna’s directive to pay when they themselves ought to know CBN’s payment due process.

THISDAY gathered that $441,000 was initially lost to the scammers. $251,000 was however blocked and recovered, leaving a balance of $190,000, which had already been cashed by the fraudsters.

Two of the scammers were however caught in Dubai, United Arab Emirate and are currently being questioned by investigators.
From their modus operandi, the scammers apparently timed the execution of the fraud to take place when the CBN governor and other deputy governors were out of the country.

Emefiele was said to have wielded the big stick by suspending the affected top officials because the CBN has laid-down procedures for the release of funds, none of which was followed in this particular case.
Sources within the bank said following the incident, the governor had warned that henceforth any such infraction would be summarily dealt with.


A statement posted on CBN website only stated that the bank had uncovered and aborted fraud without giving details.
The four-paragraph CBN statement signed by the Ag. Director, Corporate Communications, Isaac Okoroafor, and titled, ‘CBN Uncovers and Aborts Fraud,’ reads: “A highly sophisticated plot to defraud the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) by some criminal minded elements has been uncovered and aborted by the bank.

“Although preliminary investigations so far have not revealed any accomplices within the CBN, management has decided to place all key personnel involved in the transaction on suspension. “This is to ensure a full and unfettered investigation.
“This incidence has been reported to relevant authorities. The CBN wishes to assure the general public that the security of the bank remains intact.”


Hackers have been on the prowl lately breaching accounts of banks around the world. Recently, hackers breached Bangladesh Bank’s systems and attempted to steal nearly $1 billion from its account at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. Though a typo error by the hackers aborted their $1billion heist, they however netted more than $80 million before the cyber heist was uncovered.
The hackers appeared to have stolen Bangladesh Bank’s credentials for the SWIFT messaging system, which banks around the world use for secure financial communication.


They then bombarded the Federal Reserve Bank of New York with about three dozen requests to move money from the Bangladesh Bank’s account there to entities in the Philippines and Sri Lanka.
Four requests to transfer a total of about $81 million to the Philippines went through, but a fifth, for $20 million, to a Sri Lankan non-profit organisation was held up because the hackers misspelled the name of the NGO, Shalika Foundation, prompting a routing bank, Deutsche Bank, to seek clarification from the Bangladesh central bank, which stopped the transaction.

Former Delta State Governor, Felix Ibru, Dies At 80

Former Delta State Governor and one-time Senator of Federal Republic of Nigeria, Felix Ibru, has died. According to family sources, the late Ibru died today March 12th after a brief illness. Until his death, he was the President General of the Urhobo Progressive Union (UPU). He was born on 7 December 1935 at Agbarha-Otor in the Ughelli North local government area of Delta State. He was elected as the first governor of Delta state in 1992 and was also elected a senator in 2003. May his soul rest in peace Amen.

Skye Bank Debunks EFCC Investigation Report

The management of Skye Bank has debunked spurious reports that its CEO, Mr. Timothy Oguntayo has been invited by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) under any guise whatsoever. Executive Director of the bank, Mrs. Abimbola Izu, in an emailed statement to The Herald denied the report describing it as surprising. Her email reads:


“We were surprised about the report on Sahara Reporters because neither the GMD nor the Chief Compliance Officer had seen any such invitation at the time of the report. More importantly, the balances in the said PIC account were moved to the CBN in compliance with the TSA on 2nd of October 2015 and the account closed. Skye Bank thus does not maintain any account for PIC as at today. “The Bank will be happy to provide these facts and clarifications to the EFCC or any investigating agency if called upon to do so,” she added.
